From 3-3 to NFC West Champions, not bad!

It's about the journey. Well, to this point, Seattle accomplished a lot. 6 games into this season, there were many ready to announce this year as a lost cause. At season' send, the picture looks much different.

12-4 record, NFC West Champions, and most importantly, earning a first round bye and home games if they win through.  Those who are banged up will get a week to mend.

This game against the Rams wasn't pretty. But, it was expected. St. Louis defense always gives the Hawks problems. And unlike the most recent matchup, there were no special team snafus. The Seahawks will take this 20-6 victory to end the season.

The second season is set to begin. The road to Arizona, and Super Bowl 49 will be difficult. And, the Seahawks aren't perfect. The offense reverted to its sputtering ways in the first half of the Rams game. It'll take more consistent play if Wilson and company expect to be successful during the playoffs. The defense continues to hold strong, giving up FGs instead of TDs.

Can this team make a deep run? We'll see beginning in two weeks.

The Hawks Ride the Roller Coaster into December.

Weeks ago, Seahawks fans feared the worst. The team was no where in the playoff picture.

Now at this point, with the season's end in sight, check out the graphic created by the NFL. Seattle is not only in the picture, but holds it's fate in their hands. Not a bad accomplishment considering the last time I posted a NFL graphic back in October.

Seahawks will proclaim there's work to be done. But Seattle fans should appreciate the ride that has occurred over the past weeks to get to this point in the season.

Can the Seahawks overtake the Cardinals? How big a challenge will a Mark Sanchez led Eagles team pose? Will the Niners be able to regroup and upset the Hawks at Century Link? Are the Rams going to play spoilers? Hang on, this is going to be a thrilling ride to the end!

Seahawks Russell Wilson Miked-Up Against The Raiders

A unique perspective of a game day is hearing it straight from the players, as they experience it on the field. In this case, Seahawks.com shares this clip from Sunday's game against Oakland.

Seahawks therapy session is open...

After today's Rams Seahawks result, I suspect Seahawks fans are panicking.  Yes, they are 3-3. They are dealing with a bounty of injuries.  And, they will be without a break in the schedule from here on out.

Is there good news? Harvin isn't on the team. Russell Wilson is. And, the playoff picture isn't set after this week.

But if you listen to sports talk radio, fingers will be pointed in every direction again this week. Microanalysis of plays will be churned over and over. Oh, and the refs will be blamed.

So, for your own sanity, don't listen.

There are 10 weeks left in the regular season. Marshawn will have many more yards to run, and those who are injured right now are on the mend.

So, take that graphic provided by the NFL, and paste it to your fridge as a reminder that if the Seahawks make it into the playoffs, perhaps, this was the turning point.

Quick kicks on this first Sunday of the NFL season

* If you're a fantasy football player, you may have Brandin Cooks on your radar now. The rookie receiver made an impression in his Saints debut. It helps having Drew Brees as your QB too!

* Dallas Cowboys have a couple things to ponder. If you thought it was a 49ers home game, instead of Dallas', you're not the only one to notice. The crowd noise appeared to be pro-Niners.
Secondly, Tony Romo may be the anti-Russell Wilson. Romo was a dessert cart - offering turnover after turnover. Romo tries to force things, hoping to make happen instead of living for the next play.

* Kansas City doesn't appear to be near the team they were last year. Yes, it's the first game. Yes, every team can't be perfect week after week. But, the Chiefs appeared off their game facing the Titans under their new coach Ken Whisenhunt. Don't worry just yet Chiefs fans, your team joins the Packers, Bears and another notable team...

*Notables - overall first pick in this year's draft Clowney injured in his first game for the Texans.
            - Dolphins win over Patriots!
            - Ore, sorry, Philadelphia hit the accelerator after being down at halftime 17-0 to win 34-17 over the Jaguars.
            - The Browns comeback to tie the Steelers was a bittersweet effort, as the Steelers pull out the        win on their final drive, capped by a field goal. Final score 30-27.

Seattle staging for the NFL Kickoff concert.

Prep work begins for the NFL's Kickoff Concert. This should look totally different next Thursday when all eyes will focus on Seattle. Soundgarden and Pharell will perform prior to the Seahawks/Packers game.

Success breeds imitations...

As I've watched the NFL Draft these past few days, I cannot help but notice how some newly drafted players are being compared to players on the Super Bowl champion Seahawks' defense. When other teams are choosing players, trying to replicate the Seahawks model, the original can afford to move freely up and down the draft board picking talent to join their team.

There's so much trust in the John and Pete, and their scouts, Seahawks' fans aren't barking too loudly. Many fans can't say they've even seen of some of these players in action! And, in past years where the Seahawks' draftees would be roundly criticized, the NFL "experts" haven't nearly been ... I guess the shine of a Lombardi buys you leeway.

Could this be the year when the Seahawks' brain trust actually stumbles ... that they become so full of themselves that their overconfidence impacts their judgement?

No doubt, there will be a story or two about draft grades. The best way to judge this class of young men coming into the fold is after a few years within Pete's program. But, don't be surprised if someone grades the Seahawks a "C" or an incomplete.

I'm good with that...

Feeling a Draft

We are inching closer to Draft Day for the 32 NFL teams. It's pure folly trying to pick who will go to what teams. But if you want to try, go to the NFL page and play their Predict the Pick on the "Fantasy" link. First prize - tickets to the Seahawks home opener!!!

Speculation is that the Seahawks want to trade down to gain more picks in this year's draft. Will they find a willing partner?

Manziel continues to be a hot topic. And, football executives have been expressing some doubts about Johnny Football. Is this all a smoke screen, and are teams trying to create doubt hoping that he will fall into their hands later in day one? Could Manziel tumble out of the first round entirely? Mike Mayock of the NFL Network notes 5 teams in the top 8 slots of the draft board have QB needs, but Mayock isn't quite sold that Manziel will be taken by one of them. Super Bowl winning GM/NFL Network analyst Charley Casserly doesn't see Manziel being picked in the first round at all!

Which leads us to a fan of Johnny Football - Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. One thing for Seahawks management to ponder ... if Johnny Manziel fell all the way down to pick 32, would Carroll and company pick him?

Choices, choices...

UW Huskies Break Out New Uniforms!

New uniforms will greet Washington football fans this fall. And, similar to the touches Nike put into the Seattle Seahawks uniform, these Husky uniforms have special characteristics unique to Washington football. First off, you may notice the interesting gold accent on the number ...

Pause before jumping to conclusions regarding Kaepernick

According to a report file by the Miami Police Department, San Francisco 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick is under investigation for a suspicious incident that occurred last week. 2 other NFL players, Seahawks' Ricardo Lockette and Niners' Quinton Patton are also named as suspects in this report. You can google it if you're curious about this report.

The temptation is to jump to conclusions. Sports radio and various internet sites feasts on speculation. But, before anyone jumps too far, be one to take a moment and wait for all the information to come out. Just because you're a fan of one team and see Colin Kaepernick as the "enemy," doesn't mean that one should wish ill will towards him, Patton, or Lockette.

Time can be an ally. No charges have been filed on this matter.

New Real Rob Report: Pre-Super Bowl Edition

For all of you who didn't get the chance to see Seahawks Fullback Michael Robinson's Pre-Super Bowl video, here it is! What a trip out to SeaTac!

New Real Rob Report: Pre-Super Bowl Edition

Saturday, March 22, 2014

Jared Allen undecided about joining the Seahawks

2 visits, one contract in hand, Jared Allen went home with a decision to make. Even though the details are not public, one suspects that the money isn't what Allen feels is close to his perceived value ($10 million/year player). And, with the Seahawks, his on-field role would be different to what Allen is accustomed to.

If recent history applies, the deal may be similar to Michael Bennett's first contract with the Hawks - a one year deal with an opportunity to then shop himself after a successful season.

There's much for Allen to consider. Are the Seahawks on the cusp of another championship run? Can Allen be as effective (posting great stats) with less playing time? Are the other teams he's considering offering deals closer to Allen's liking?

Thus, the Seahawks and the 12s wait for Allen's decision.

Golden Tate talks Hawks, Lions and the 12s

Tuesday on Seattle's Bob and Groz show(710 ESPN), Former Seahawk Golden Tate chatted about his talks with the Hawks, and what led him to sign with the Detroit Lions.

Unfortunately I cannot create a direct link to the page, so here's the web address to the story and audio.

Quick Hits - Over the weekend

Walter Thurmond is now a former Seahawk as he signs a one year deal with the N.Y. Giants.

In other news, looks like former Seahawk/Bronco John Moffitt may have gotten into trouble in Chicago according to one media outlet. More details will be revealed in the days to come.

K Steven Hauschka re-signed with the Hawks for a 3 year/$9.15 million dollar deal. Also, the Seahawks were able to renegotiate a cap-friendly contract with TE Zack Miller for a guaranteed 2 year contract.

For the Love of the Game

Faces of joy. Some are still in high school, others war veterans. They are our U.S. Hockey team. Gold medalists all.

At a time when we read about athletes signing for millions of dollars, there are others who hope to see a fraction of that in their sporting lives.

But ask these athletes what's better? Gold. The kind of medal that's earned after coming back from life's setbacks. These are athletes who deserve our attention, and praise. For today, these young athletes, clad in red, white, and blue, took to the ice and accomplished their one goal.

Fitting they won, 1-0, over a good Russian team ... on Sochi ice.

Look at these faces. Can you see the joy?

Did you notice their sleds?

Post Super Bowl Angst - Free Agency is here!

Super Bowl Champions Seahawks ... welcome to a new NFL season. Yes, it's here and the free agent signings mark its beginning.

Many Seahawks fans are asking "why can't we keep this championship team together?" Simple answer, there is no possible way. Some player contracts ended after the Super Bowl and thus, were free to test the market. Newly available players with the glow of a champion is hard to resist. For example, Michael Bennett, the impact pass rusher was coveted by other NFL teams with Chicago being the leading suitor - with the added bonus of Bennett's brother Martellus playing for the Bears as well. But, in the end, the Seahawks made Bennett a priority and re-signed lineman to a new four year contract.

However, other Seahawks landed on new teams. Say goodbye to Golden Tate, Clinton McDonald, Red Bryant, and Chris Maragos. A few more will depart in coming days. Super Bowl Champions all.

But, delve deeper, and ask yourself why would you want to keep the status quo? Other teams are now building upon the successes of their season, addressing weaknesses, and finding talent through the draft. So must the Seahawks. Thus, there is no way this team would ever be exactly the same as last year's team.

"Bigger, Faster, Stronger..." embraces the nature of constantly evolving, embracing change. In the end, every year is unique, and every team is hoping to build a champion.
